Led the move of the organization into adopting a cloud-first approach that earned top billing for being Well-Architected. Led the design, implementation, and production run of a greenfield manufacturing data pipeline on the cloud – a first in the organization. This led to near real-time acquisition of manufacturing data to analytical insights using a serverless, scalable architecture. This was recognized across the company as a success and featured in AWS’s This is my Architecture series as well as the World Economic Forum’s Manufacturing Lighthouse Network.

Worked with the business in understanding needs and helping formulate relevant Business Architecture artifacts the that led to establishing clear design goals and targets. In the initial phases, I led the development in working out patterns the teams would need to implement; small proof-of-concepts. Laid down overall principles to be followed in developing such a pipeline and the DevOps model to be followed. In doing so, I had to write some of the core parts of the pipeline and therefore am intimately familiar with said architecture.

Big Data Solutions Architect • Jun, 2014 — Jan 2017

Hands on architect responsible for design of solutions targeting manufacturing and marketing sections. Responsible for design of real-time and business intelligence solutions targeting manufacturing and marketing sections specifically ingestion and procession of high-speed sensor data from factory floor. These are using in-house Big Data platforms (MapR Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Flume) and AWS’s Big Data offerings (Kinesis Streams, Lambda functions, Redshift, S3 etc.). Closely involved in creating proof of concepts (initial working design and prototypes) and architecting enterprise-level applications. Lead and mentor development teams.

Leading design and development teams spearheading the growth of partner rebates market in China. This involves heading the team that sets up partner rebates web portal on AWS (Amazon) within China. Challenges involve understanding specific needs of the China market and government regulatory policies.

Worked with Senior management, other Enterprise Architects on formulation of the Business Intelligence roadmap for the group. This involves understanding and aligning the company strategy with the capabilities needed to execute plans and goals for the year.

Designed and implemented a real-time yield and process-capability monitoring systems on AWS (Amazon) infrastructure with Kinesis Streams, Lambda functions (node.js), DynamoDB, EMR, CloudWatch and Redshift that ingests high-speed machine sensor data to show, in real-time (using PubNub), yield values for various stations. This will help in monitoring process capability indices, intercepting defects early in the manufacturing lifecycle, thereby resulting in potential savings of millions of dollars.

Designed and Implemented Apache Spark jobs (Spark Core and Spark SQL) to ingest large-volume sensor data from HP Ink factory floor ingested via a combination of MSMQ, Kafka and Flume. End users were trained in alaysis of data, stored as parquet, using Apache Drill, spark-shell, Tableau and other dashboards. Separate projects designed to handle streaming manufacturing sensor data using Spark Streaming and HBase.

Also currently working with regional business leaders on expanding HP's Asia-Pacific Supplies business into China. Involves setting up regional teams, infrastructure, standards and business processes. The technology stack invovles ASP.NET, SQL Server running on Amazon Cloud (China) via Elastic Beanstalk.

This involved leading a team of Big Data professionals in running MapReduce jobs processing over 30GB of data a day, on a 52 node MapR Hadoop cluster. Was the lead for architectural decisions related to ingesting PII data and it's integration with other company data subjects while adhering to privacy policies. Worked closely with business leaders in establishing a governing councils to oversee the implementation and operation.

Responsible for global Ink and Toner Supplies Marketing and Forecasting assets running on Oracle Essbase. Designed and implemented one of the largest Essbase installations within HP.
